Son-Day: 1 Thessalonians 5:8

'Accidently' came upon this verse (LOVE when that happens:)

On the way to church (ALONE) a 1 Thessalonians verse kept being repeated on the radio .
One about JOY.
I love the word joy.
When I went to look it up at home, and mark it, I couldn't find it, but found this treasure.
God is a.w.e.s.o.m.e.

"But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet the hope of salvation."  1 Thessalonians 5:8

(probably gonna purchase this game)

Food Storage $5 a week plan: wk #1

My mom feels like we need to organize our food storage. And, seems to be, my mom is usually right. Almost always. Also, in case you don't know Mormon's are BIG into food storage (official church site on food storage), but then 'older' people, like my mom, who were raised to have extra food in the pantry should be honored.

SO...we talked about buying a little extra at the store, locating and filling up those empty water containers I have, and (locating) updating our inventory list.

I have some under my bed at mom's, and in a rented storage building, she has more perishable under her beds, and a freezer full. BUT we don't really know what we have.

Our church ladies have compiled a 'easy' list to get you started (at the bottom of this page) and I'm doing it, and gonna see how much it costs in today's market.

I only want to spend $20 extra bucks each week, so I'll round out any extra other things.

Mom suggested we buy on sale can or boxed stuff. I was behind three weeks, so I had $60 to spend, and luckily, the little store here in town had can veg 2/$1, box mac&cheese 3/$1, salt 2/$1.

Actually, I was looking at a different list and bought LOTS of salt. Since we have the basic dry long term food at mom's, I think I'll go with the variety in the the list below.

That said, I still need to get tuna. :) The below list says it is for two people.
all bagged and ready to take back home:)
Until I get the tuna, I can't tell how much of the $5 at week I spent. The two boxes of salt were only $1. Since week two and three are on sale now, I think I'll use my extra money and go ahead and catch up on the weekly thing and be on week four instead of week two.

Saturday score:
 74 cans of veg:
 white hominy @ 2/$1
yellow hominy @ 2/$1
sliced carrot @ 2/$1
green beans @ 2/$1
mixed veggies @ 3/$1
creamed corn @ 2/$1
whole corn @ 2/$1
tomato soup @ 2/$1
Also: taco seasoning @ 2/$.88
chili w/beans @ 4/$5
sugar 4lb 1.99
candle @ 4/$5
mac&cheese box @ 3/$1
12 salt @ 2/$1 =$45.00

Food storage for $5 a week

From: Olga Jones [Outlands comments are at the bottom]
{Olga says:]Know anyone who thinks they are too poor to prepare? Help is at hand, from the PREP list...
Ok I finally got the copies of the Food storage for $5 a week. I don't remember where I got it, but it wasn't off the internet. What you are supposed to do is set aside $5 a week and then buy specific items each week. You have a kitty set aside that you put the $5 in and you can't touch it for any reason but to buy the food storage item for that week. You put in whatever remaining change you have back into the kitty. Some things in the beginning are going to be cheap and then later will be more expensive. In order to pay for the expensive stuff later you need to keep the leftover money in the kitty.
Week 1:Two cans tuna fish, 2 boxes salt
Week 2: 5 boxes of Macaroni and Cheese, 4 cans tomato soup
Week 3: 3 cans mushroom soup, 1 2.5 lb peanut butter
Week 4: 1 bottle vitamins
Week 5: 4 cans tomato soup, 1 10 lb powdered milk
Week 6: 1 bottle aspirin (500 tablets)
Week 7: 1 100 lb container wheat
Week 8: 1 5 lb powdered milk
Week 9:1 5 lb honey
Week 10:4 cans tuna, 4 boxes macaroni and cheese
Week 11:1 10 lb sugar, 1 box salt
Week 12:4 cans mushroom soup
Week 13:1 bottle vitamins
Week 14:1 100 lb wheat
Week 15:1 box macaroni and cheese
Week 16:1 5 lb honey
Week 17:2 cans tuna, 4 can tomato soup
Week 18:1 10 lbs sugar
Week 19:1 100 lbs of wheat
Week 20:2 10lbs of sugar
Week 21: 10lb powdered milk
Week 22:1 can mushroom soup, 1 10 lb sugar
Week 23:1 can tuna, 4 cans tomato soup, 1 10 lbs sugar
Week 24:1 10 lbs sugar
Week 25:2 cans tuna, 2 cans mushroom soup
Week 26:1 100 lb wheat
Week 27:3 10 lbs sugar
Week 28:1 10 lb sugar
Week 29:1 10 lb powdered milk
Week 30:2 10 lb sugar
Week 31:1 can tuna, 3 cans mushroom soup
Week 32:1 can tuna, 4 cans tomato soup
Week 33:1 100 lb wheat
Week 34:2 cans tuna, 1 box salt
Week 35:1 10 lb powdered milk
Week 36:2 10 lb sugar
Week 37:4 cans tomato soup, 2 boxes salt
Week 38:
Week 39:1 100 lb wheat
Week 40:1 10 lb powdered milk
Week 41:3 10 lb sugar
Week 42:2 cans tomato soup, 1 10 lb sugar
Week 43:2 cans tomato soup, 2 cans mushroom soup
Week 44:
Week 45:1 10 lb powdered milk
Week 46:4 cans tomato soup, 4 cans mushroom soup
Week 47:1 10 lb powdered milk
Week 48:4 cans mushroom soup, 1 10 lb powdered milk
Week 49:7 cans of tomato soup
Week 50:7 cans of mushroom soup
Week 51:2 10 lbs sugar, 1 box salt
A few weeks you will have "off" to replenish the kitty. I haven't figured it out myself, but by the end you should have 700lbs of wheat, 240 lbs sugar, 40 lbs of powdered milk, 13 lbs of salt, 10 lbs of honey, 5 lbs of peanut butter, 45 cans of tomato soup, 32 cans mushroom soup, 15 cans tuna fish, 10 macaroni and cheese dinners, 500 aspirin, and 730 multiple vitamins plus they suggest adding 6lbs of dried yeast and 6 lbs of shortening and this should be enough to sustain 2 people for a year. For every 2 people you have in your family add $5 more and double or triple the amount of whatever you are buying that week.

Different $5 week list.

Son-Day: Put It On

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;  Ephesians 6:11-18

Son-Day: Behold...Alma 44:9

Every have a scripture that just sticks with you?
That everything you cry to the Lord, He sends you to one spot in your scriptures?
Alma 44:9 is mine.
I will admit, I got (somewhat) fustrated at this verse.  I have broke it down and broke it down.   I even said "I GET IT!!" more than once.  I know this chapter is mine.  For me.  But its a bloody battle chapter and somewhat...whats the word...icky?

However, I realized I was 'poo-pooing' revelation.  I was saying to God, I don't NEED anymore info in that area.  Shame.  Thank goodness for repentance, a chance to re-align and go again.

I know God has put 'magic' in His word, and His most awesome Holy Ghost has MUCH to give me, in this chapter.  In this verse.   In just one word.  I also know when I'm needing, this is my starting place.  (took me YEARS to figure that one out:)

The whole verse says:
Behold, we are anot of your faith; we do not believe that it is God that has delivered us into your hands; but we believe that it is your cunning that has preserved you from our swords. Behold, it is your bbreastplates and your shields that have preserved you.  Alma 44:9

But, for now, I am focusing on this part.

"...Behold, it is your breastplates and your shields that have preserved you."  Alma 44:9

The righteous KNOW what preserves them.

I have been day dreaming...

I have been day dreaming...
Looks like when hubs finishes this job, and we leave this guesthouse, we will be bringing our camper to West Texas and living in it.
So many organizational opportunities in my little camper.
Bath room cabinets, pantry shelves, tv cabinet, at least 4 sets of small high cabinets for the walls in the bedroom and living room.
Making use of under the couch, dinette, and bunk beds.
On and on.
I have shopped around and measured and priced.
But what occupies most of my day dreams is,
what plants am I having in the camper and where will they be?

Silly, huh?

Since no one here is interested in my BIG houseplant dreams, I will share them with you.
Da web.

half terri cotta colored plastic pot from Home Depot.
In our little bathroom, on the wall that is too shallow for shelving, utilizing the sky light, I want this flat pot.
I'm thinking maybe some bushy and draping plants.  Its pretty good size, and I think will be easy to stabilized on the wall when not moving the camper.  And easy to take down for moving the camper.

The nurseries here had some neat little house plants to add to my combos.
I think I will have a round pot and that long window box planter on the fridge by the kitchen window.  Some of these small plants will be split between the three planters.  Guess my dumb cane (white pot) will have to stay back at mom's.  And I think next time we go home I'll go ahead and plant up my camper house plants.  I have some ivies at home I want to use.
HIGH on my want list-this Pearls and Jade pothos and
 Swiss Cheese Philodendron.

Sedums, mini day lilies, dead mini rose in goat planter
Because we have been going to our camper only once a month (and sometimes hubs went and not me), Donut the goat planter has been needing some TLC.  So this last trip I loaded her up and brought her to West Texas where she could get some loving.
Found this on clearance and thought it would jazz things up some.
cleaned up and replanted
Donut is our mascot, and in memory of a dear goat we had and loved.
All cleaned up and ready to go again.
Sedums, mini purple day lilies

Due to not watering, I lost my mini purple rose, and hen's and chicks.
I'll probably replace the rose, need something with some height.
And some happy days mini yellow day lily.
I'm excited to see all this fill in, and what is hardy and what isn't.

Antique 1918 Gramophone

How beautiful is this thing?
At the 'guest house' this is the homeowner's.
It works perfectly.
Antique 1918 RCA Gramophone

She has two.
Don't you think she should GIVE me this one???
Middle speakers, lower album library
Ages ago, my daddy collected old radios and record players.
He would have loved this one!

Topping it off, the homeowner's lamp, and our new find:
A brand new Grandkid frame from Goodwill.
Now I can have my precious granddarlings with me when we are out of town.

{Really, I can see us having all kinds of fun with this record player back home, might have to ask if she will let us buy if from her...}
